He served as chief resident during the fifth year of his training and went on to become a chief resident in internal medicine. In 2002, he joined the emergency medicine faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and focused on his interest in medical student and residency education.

Rob has published two books on education. The first, Practical Teaching in Emergency Medicine, is devoted to helping emergency physicians around the world teach the specialty of emergency medicine. His second book, just published in September 2010, is entitled The Medical Student Educators Handbook, and was coedited with Mak Moayedi from The University of Maryland.
Rob is an invited speaker for the faculty development course presented by the Council of Residency Directors (“Navigating the Academic Waters”), AAEM’s Scientific Assembly, ACEP’s Scientific Assembly, the national conference of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, and the USC Essentials Course.
